32. Martha Marcy May Marlene
Director: Sean Durkin
Starring: Elizabeth Olsen
Year: 2011
Format: 35mm Print, Palace Centro
Haunted by painful memories and increasing paranoia, a damaged woman struggles to re-assimilate with her family after fleeing an abusive cult.
NOTE: I adore this film. While checking the print on Saturday night I was unable to look away and was drawn into watching. Before I knew it I had dragged a stool next to the porthole and there I sat for the next hour or so. I enjoyed it so much I came back to work 3 days later to sit in the cinema and watch it properly. Elizabeth Olsen is truly captivating and the cutting story line through her time with the “cult” takes you deeper and darker each moment.

12. Clueless.
Director: Amy Heckerling
Starring: Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd, Brittany Murphy
Year: 1995
Format: DVD.
.NOTE: Clueless is one of those go to films for me. I can watch it countless times, in any mood and generally do with all of my favourite people (like last night with Zoe and vodka slurpees). So lets pretend I wrote something about it being witty (which it is) and ironic (which it also is).

Most guys, we can recite all of The Godfather, we can recite all of Caddyshack, we can do those kinds of things. Women, by and large, can’t. You guys can say “you complete me”, and that’s about it. And I think it’s because in the history of movies, there have been fewer quotable lines spoken by actresses than actors.
- Aaron Sorkin (follow and join the #LadiesinFilm tag on Twitter to prove him wrong with quotable lines from women across film history). #geenadavis4eva (via nonaswriting)
I have two words for you, Sorkin: AS IF
(via amandahess)
And who’s fault is that Aaron? The writers. You done fucked yourself over there.
Also, GROSS overgeneralization. I don’t think I’ve ever dated a girl who couldn’t quote Caddyshack or The Godfather. Check your sexism, dude. No matter how good you are at what you do, you have no right to be an asshole.(via onehundreddollars)
I dont agree with the automatic hate on Aaron Sorkin for this quote. Aaron Sorkin hasnt written and directed every film in history, and sadly what he is saying is a little true, women don’t get great or major roles in film and television. But lets think about two television shows that Aaron Sorkin has written and created…THE WEST WING
STUDIO 60
Not only are these well made, well written, praised and watched in mass television shows, but they both have strong, female leads that were written and created by Aaron Sorkin. Yes this quote isnt the most well versed, politically correct statement to make but I dont think the heart of the statement is “Well Ladies, you are unable to do a task that men can do, suck on that” but rather “Not so many great roles, let alone great lines have been written for women”.
As a woman (who can quote The Godfather and Caddyshack FYI) I dont enjoy the mass generalisation of this quote but I also do not believe the man who wrote the characters C.J Cregg, Abbey Bartlet, Deborah Fiderer, Harriet Hayes, Amy Gardener, and Jordan McDeere is a sexist.
